The United States announced participation at Expo 2005 on 18 November 2003.

The pavilion will be situated in the global commons area as part of 28 modules set aside for the Americas. The modules are to be set around a lake.

Expo 2005 is Japan's fourth world's fair and takes place from 25 March 2005 to 25 September 2005. Japan's previous international expositions were Expo '70 in Osaka, Expo '75 in Okinawa, and Expo '85 in Tsukuba.

The United States has agreed to participate with its own pavilion.
